to an intense headache, sniffles and rainy & dark weather calls for this...
Its the middle of May and its freaking 55 degrees and I can't take it anymooooore!!!! On top of that I spent the better part of my weekend working on a dress for my approaching b-day, and seriously wondering if it will get warm enough to wear it.
On another note, I would like to Thank Everyone for their advice on fixing my dress. I was able to make adjustments to the dress by doing a center back seam that eliminated the gaposis in the back, recut the yoke for a more centered look. Also, instead of using the back & front neck facing, I cut bias strips from the fashion fabric and baste stitched it to the neck opening.
What techniques do you use to shorten your dress or skirt?

Glad everything worked out with your dress!
Glad you got it figured out. I normally make any length changes before i cut my fabric, using the lines on the pattern piece.

I hope you feel better soon!Like Adeienne said I length before I cut out my fabric. You dress looks good Girl!
I am hating this weather too. I am now just recovering from my illness. It sucks to deal with this weather but what can you do.
I do like your bias binding. I can't wait to see your finished dress.
Your dress is looking fantastic! I like the bias binding you did. Sorry about the weather! I don't know if you want to know, but I was complaining Monday because it was so hot here already. But guess what? Today is cooling down to 80 some-odd degrees and we have lots of wind. I like all the candles!!!
I love the shift dress. I especially like how you did the top in a different fabric. But you know I can't sew a lick so I can't answer your question, lol.
I love the bias binding detail. For me it depend on how much I want to shorten the dress. If it is 3 inches or less I just fold and iron at the 3 inch mark. I never really have to chop off more than that. U can try doing it on the dress form and use a yardstick to measure up from the floor and mark with chalk.
I hope you feel better! And I am also wishing warm weather your way so you can wear your dress!!
I hope all is well and lovely in your neck of the world. =)
you would not be able to put me out, your fireplace is beautiful!
I hem to shorten.
Do you own a rotary cutter, a cutting mat and a ruler? If so, I determine how much I want to cut off. Then I draw a line with the fabric marker using the ruler and the cutting mat to make sure the line is accurate. Finally I use the rotary cutter to cut the piece off.
HTH's!
Yeah, its been raining in these parts too. I hope this is the last week for that. I love the rich tones in your dress.
